The FIM and Youthstream have released their initial view of the 2014 schedule for the FIM Motocross World Championship and while the calendar remains at eighteen rounds Hungary comes into the frame for the first time and Spain is also set for a Grand Prix after dropping out of the international spotlight in 2010.

Running from March 1st with Qatar, Thailand and Brazil meaning a lot of travelling for the teams and riders in the space of four weeks, the provisional fixture list will involve two races in April, two in May, three in June, three in July, three in August and then two in September, with the 68th Motocross of Nations taking place at Kegums at Latvia (with the eastern Europeans dropping off the Grand Prix list in order to prep for the biggest MX race of the year).

The addition of Madrid circuit Talavera (still to be confirmed though) as round six on May 11th indicates a welcome return for MXGP to Spain and with Jose Butron piling up the podium results in the MX2 class and enjoying national TV appearances in recent weeks there is momentum again for the sport on the Iberian peninsula. Having said that Portugal drops away for the first time this century while Holland and Italy are the only nations to entertain two rounds with staple venues Valkenswaard and Lierop as well as Arco di Trento and Maggiora again on course.

The penultimate Grand Prix will occur in Mexico in the city of Leon and with a different promotion partner for Youthstream, one that has experience in organising international rally events. The ‘TBA’ one week later could very well mean another Brazilian round or at least a season-closer within the Americas.
