-The win by Spies ends an 83-race barren spell for American riders in MotoGP. The last rider from the US to win in MotoGP was Nicky Hayden at Laguna Seca in 2006.

 

-He becomes just the fifth different rider to win a dry MotoGP race during the 800cc era. The other four are Casey Stoner, Valentino Rossi, Jorge Lorenzo and Dani Pedrosa.

 

-Spies’ win at the Dutch TT ends a sequence of thirty-one races in the MotoGP class without a first time winner. The last rider to take his maiden MotoGP win was Andrea Dovizioso at the wet British Grand Prix in 2009.

 

-He is just the fourth rider to win a four-stroke MotoGP race on a Yamaha. The others are Max Biaggi, Valentino Rossi and Jorge Lorenzo.

 

-It is only the second win in the premier-class of Grand Prix racing by a rider who has previously won the World Superbike Championship. The other was by Troy Bayliss at the final race of the 2006 season in Valencia.
